Frequently Asked Questions
So, you're thinking about learning to line dance..... Good decision! Go for it! What have you got to lose?
But maybe you're a bit nervous about your first class; will I be any good? What if I go wrong? Don't worry, we don't make mistakes in line dancing, we call them "variations".
However, you may have a few questions. I have listed some, but if I haven't answered yours, get in touch.
Do I need a partner? No! If you want to come with a friend or your other half, no problem, the more the merrier. But you don't need anyone to dance with, line dancing is done without a partner. And you will make friends in the class, so you don't need to bring moral support with you - we don't bite, honest!
Do I need any special equipment? No! Just wear clothes you can move about in, and more importantly, shoes you can dance in (no high heels, stilettos, slippers, uggs or sling backs/flip flops please, for your own safety. Also, please check your soles won't mark the dance floor, thanks!) If you find that you love line dancing, at a later stage you may want to invest in some dance shoes, but it isn't necessary. Also, it's a good idea to bring a drink with you (water, squash etc) to replace the fluids you will sweat out.
I have an injury/restricted movement - can I still dance? Obviously this will depend on your own personal circumstances, but I would generally say yes! Line dancing can be done at a very low impact level (although you can make it a work out if you want to) so it's really up to you and how much you want to do it. I know several people who are line dancing in their 80s and beyond. I also know of people who have difficulty in doing the turns because of dizziness (this is at improver/intermediate level) but the turns can usually be taken out or the dance adapted to suit the dancer. If you want to chat about your abilities, please do give me a call (07724 119854) otherwise, give it a go - you never know til you try!
Will I be any good at it? As a beginner you will make "variations", it's inevitable. But then, we all do from time to time, even me! Just smile and carry on. What's the worst that can happen?! As a general guide, I would suggest giving it a go for at least six weeks to give yourself time to learn enough to know if line dancing is really your thing.
Can I go to other classes? Please do! The more you practice, the better your dancing will be.
How do I find the class? Where can I park? The postcode is on the classes page, along with details of the times etc. There is a free car park at Manselton (please park sensibly to allow room for others to come later and don't block access to the garages).
How much do classes cost? £5 per class. Payment is by cash only. You pay only for those classes you attend and can stay as long as you want for the £5.
Do I need to book? No, you can just turn up without letting me know. (Please make sure you have checked the classes page in case of cancellations). If you are an Absolute Beginner, it is helpful if I know you are coming, but it's not essential.
Do you teach at parties/hen nights etc? Absolutely! Give me a call or send a message via the contact page, so we can discuss.
I hope this has answered any questions you have, but if it hasn't, please get in touch. Above anything else, we would love to see more people line dancing, it's such a great way to keep fit, keep your mind active and have fun! Hope to see you on the dance floor soon!
