I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday.

Just to update everything, Nic has kindly agreed to cover for me for the first 2 weeks of April. Classes will be from 6-8pm only, which means that for most of you there is no change. For the Intermediates, I will ask her to put on a couple you know during the 2 hours to give you your weekly fix of a harder dance.
I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday. Debz x

The seven of us who went to the ELD weekend in Aberavon had a fabulous time! Danced our socks off and stepped out of comfort zones to learn much harder dances than might normally be attempted in class. I hope it encourages some of you to stay to the Intermediate classes in the future.
Numbers were a bit down last week and I antiipate the same this week judging by the number of emails and texts I've had letting me know you're not going to be there, but we will have a ball anyway. Obviously, this is not a good week to miss when I'm coming back from a weekend away armed with 7 new dances! I won't teach them all this week, but we have a new dance for every class tonight. There is a class next week and then I'm away for a couple of weeks. Facebook reminded me that it is 3 years ago today that we were put into the first lockdown. We thought it might be for a couple of months (I know some people thought a couple of weeks....) but it turned out that my classes didn't return until July 2021, and then under tight restrictions. Whilst I try very hard to forget that terrible time, we do need to remember that such a short while ago, we were prevented from enjoying our hobby (and so many other things) and it reinforces to me that we need to take every opportunity to do the things we love while we can, who knows what tomorrow holds? In that vein, it was with great sadness that I learned that the Samlet Club is now closed. We should have been there last night, but Chris and Julie made the decision last week to close with immediate effect. I don't know the reasons, but I can guess them. So again, use it or lose it. Unfortunately, that leaves us with very few places to line dance socially in Swansea. I will endeavour to find out if there are any other socials on, but those I'm aware of involve quite a bit of travelliing in the Cardiff direction. However, the good news is that Luke is hosting an event in July - 2 full days of workshops and 2 evening socials. Details are on the Blue Topaz Line Dancing Facebook page and the events page on this site. You need to contact Luke for wristbands. Please don't leave it too late - do it now and get it in your diary. I will be teaching there, along with several other line dance instructors for the area and it looks to be a fab weekend. See you soon! Debz x Hey - well, who knew that good old linedancing would be on the telly on Friday morning? Did you see it? If you did, I'd be interested to hear what you thought.
What they showed, despite having done the research and asked an industry body to assist with getting a teacher and dancers, was a professional dance group who have obviously never line danced before. I was also appalled at the dreadful outfits they were wearing. However, as they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity, so if that means we get more people coming to classes, then fabulous. I just hope they don't expect us to be wearing short red skirts, check shirts and red toy cowboy hats! This Friday sees some of the class on a line dance weekend for the first time. I really hope you all enjoy it and come back enthused and excited to learn more dances. I can't believe you've already booked another for later in the year! See you Thursday! Debz x Classes have continued to be busy throughout February, although last week was a little quieter due to half term. It did help that the half term in England was a week earlier so some of you were on grandchildren/children duties the week before, so it meant that not everyone was missing on the same night.
Last weekend saw the first of the Wagon Wheel Roundups for this year and it was so lovely to see so many people from class there, enjoying themselves and putting their learning into practice on the dancefloor. And making new friends too. It was lovely for me to see lots of old pals too. It made me very aware of how many friendships we have formed through line dancing and I hope this will be the case for you too. It's great that a number of you are going to other classes too, so learning different dances and getting more experience. The next weekender is 28th and 29th April with John Permenter (fiddle player - does an awesome Devil Went Down to Georgia) and Texas Gun, who I've not seen for a while. George has a fantastic voice, his was one of the 3 cd's I bought during lockdown. Certainly a weekend to look forward to. In the meantime, Swansea Country Music Club should be back on this month. I've yet to see any details but I'm sure they will be out soon. If you fancy a more line dance focused night out (rather than country music focused) Jenni Bradshaw does some socials at JKs in Briton Ferry, as does Andrew Hayes and Anne John does a social once a month down in Pyle. Also, if you're prepared to travel, there are socials in the Merthyr and Cardiff areas too. I can't find any details on the ELD website for those, so if I see anything on facebook, I'll let you know. Holiday dates are on the classes page. Keep dancing xx |
